Student Affairs

The Student Affairs Committee is responsible for addressing all issues surrounding student welfare and student life experience at the University of Connecticut. This committee is made up of Residential Senators, Commuter Senators, the Mutlicultural and Diversity Senator as well as many volunteers. Student Affairs serves as a liaison to the Division of Student Affairs as well as many university committees such as the Parking Advisory Committee. Student Affairs is also responsible for appropriating funds to Area Councils as well as overseeing its four subcommittees, Residential Affairs, Commuter Affairs, Multicultural and Diversity Affairs, and the Freshman Council.

USG's Student Affairs Committee has a long history of working with many entities of the university on issues concerning the student body. In the past, Student Affairs has passed important legislation impacting meal plans, housing, and campus safety. Each semester, the Student Affairs Committee works with the UConn community to organize and participate in a safety walk around campus. Safety issues found from the Safety Walk are then reported and fixed. In the spring, Student Affairs works with other organizations at UConn to plan the annual Spring Weekend Rally to promote a fun and safe Spring Weekend. Additionally, Student Affairs has worked closely with diversity organizations and cultural centers to pass legislation regarding multicultural and diversity issues. Currently, the Student Affairs Committee is continuing to work on issues of safety as well as transportation and campus development concerns.

Student Affairs Chair

Donald (Clive) Richards

After receiving an Associates Degree in both Business Management & Liberal Arts from a local community college, Donald Clive Richards transferred to the University of Connecticut double majoring in Political Science and Economics. He began his service in USG in September of 2008 after being elected Mansfield Apartment's residential senator. Mr. Richards was a member of the Student Affairs committee under the previous chair, Thomas Haggerty. Haggerty has since been elected president for USG, and appointed Mr. Richards to succeed him.
Mr. Richards has been known for not only donating several hours on the weekend to drive for GUARD DOGS, but is one of the best dressed members of USG on any given day.

Student Affairs Vice-Chair

Grace Collins

Grace Collins is in her second year at the University of Connecticut. It is also her second year serving in the Undergraduate Student Government. As a residential senator for North Campus last year, she assisted both her Area Council and her individual constituents with concerns they had about the University. Her time in the Undergraduate Student Government helped her to better understand the inner workings of the organization and has ensured that her role as a Multicultural and Diversity Senator will be one of success.

Wonchi Ju

Wonchi Ju is a sophomore ACES student. Prior to serving as a Multicultural and Diversity senator she was the Shippee residential senator. Last year she served on the Faculty Standards Committee, Diversity Committee, Student Affairs Committee and Pan Asian Council. Wonchi is from Simsbury, CT and graduated from Simsbury High School in 2008. In her free time she enjoys doing Tae Kwon Do, Wushu, running, and reading.
