MESSAGE FROM THE CANDIDATE

Hi everyone! My name is Ali Villano and I am the current senator for the School of Nursing looking to be re-elected! I am a second semester Junior who loves to read, hang out outside, and has a big passion for all things nursing and healthcare. 🙂 I have served as the School of Nursing Senator for the past two and a half years and have loved every minute of it! Through my time as the Senator I have been able to advocate for the expansion of reproductive health care on college campuses throughout Connecticut. On top of being the SON senator, I serve as the Speaker of the Undergraduate Senate! Through this role, I am able to help connect Senators with their constituencies and help students create a better UConn community. I am active in many clubs on campus, including being the Community Service Chair with the Student Nursing Association, a Dancer Representative and Captain with HuskyTHON, and a member of Cross Cultural Connections and WiMSE. I am the President of the Connecticut Student Nurses Association and I am really looking to help bridge the gap between the local and state level when it comes to nursing students, their education, as well as new graduate opportunities! I have learned a lot these past two and a half years and I am excited and ready to help advocate and be the voice for the SON! A few things I would like to accomplish this semester are having direct input from nursing students to help write legislation that will improve our experience here, having open and honest communication with administration and staff, and creating a mentorship program between UConn students and nurses in Connecticut! I am super grateful to have been able to serve all of you this far, and I hope you'll have me back for another year!
