MESSAGE FROM THE CANDIDATE

Hi everyone! I’m Angelo Montes, a Sophomore First Gen Latino Political Science major and I would be beyond honored to be elected by you to serve as your Comptroller!

I began my USG journey as a Residential/Multicultural Diversity Senator my freshman year. As a USG Governing Board member/SOC Supervisor I oversee 11 staff members, provide Tier II organizations with services to help promote their work, and keep our USG public meetings minuted, accessible, accurate, and inclusive. I also had the honor to present at multiple Culture Centers and at SOLID workshops to inform Tier II organizations about UGS’s Funding System and SOC Services. Serving as a J.E.D.I. Committee member involves reviewing University policies, programs, and conditions to promote justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion among students, faculty, and staff.

As your Comptroller, I will work to ensure that the needs of marginalized communities are met and sustained, and strengthen the relationships between USG and Cultural Centers. I aim to make changes to systems and policies to ensure club funding/resources are more accessible, advocate on the Student Fee Advisory Committee to fight against unnecessary fees to make UConn more affordable, supportive, and accessible for every student.
