Daphne Kam

My name is Daphne Kam, and I am a sophomore majoring in Sociology with minors in Human Rights and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies. I am running because I believe the humanities deserve greater visibility, institutional support, and respect on our campus. The humanities teach us how to think critically, engage ethically, and understand the social forces shaping our lives. Through my academic work and leadership roles, including serving as Treasurer of Students Empowering Sociology and Advocacy Chair on CT Hall Council, I have seen how humanities-centered spaces foster dialogue, community, and meaningful social change. My experiences as a teaching assistant, volunteer reader with BookPals, and Chief of Staff for an international education nonprofit have reinforced my commitment to education equity, accessibility, and advocacy. I want to amplify student voices, support interdisciplinary collaboration, and ensure that humanities students feel seen, valued, and empowered. Together, we can strengthen the role of the humanities in shaping a more thoughtful, inclusive university community.
