Debora St Surin - Academic (CLAS)
I have always been very big on leadership/advocacy, and been part of student organizations for the majority of my academic career. This is because I found it more productive to be part of the change that I want to see, rather than a complainer and stuck. After serving my first term as a Student Representative at Norwich Free Academy’s Student Advisory Board, I saw the change that just a few words could make in terms of policy. This especially further fanned the flames of my passion and thereafter I yearned to have a voice that mattered and could have an impact on change.
Some examples of this are as Vice President of my high school's Black Student Union to being Vice President of my graduating class, and most notably Vice President of my hometown’s Youth Branch of the NAACP, where I was awarded a Certificate of Recognition by the U.S. Congressman Joe Courtney and a Certificate of Accomplishment by U.S. Senator Chris Murphy for leadership! These opportunities served as a platform for what I could eventually do and/or aim for in the real world. If I were to be elected as your USG Senator, I will do my best to represent our constituents and work toward an even better future!
