

MESSAGE FROM THE CANDIDATES
Andy Zhang
Andy Zhang is a junior in economics and environmental sciences. He has served as the College of Agriculture, Health, and Natural Resources’ Senator for two years and as USG’s Director of Communications for the past year, prioritizing transparency, accountability, and student engagement. He has successfully advocated for policy change at the local, state, and federal levels, through organizations like Plant Futures, the New York State Office of the Attorney General’s Environmental Protection Bureau, and Friends of the Earth. As USG President, Andy will restore USG’s advocacy roots, strengthen collaboration with student organizations, expand funding for student-led initiatives, and make USG more accessible to all students. He believes USG should be a platform for action and empowerment, ensuring every student has the resources to create change.
Haritha Subramanian
Haritha Subramanian is a junior majoring in political science, music, and women’s & reproductive rights, pursuing a fast-track Master’s in Public Policy. She has served as the Asian American Cultural Center Ex-Officio Senator for two years, demonstrating a deep commitment to social justice, activism, and community organizing both on campus and across Connecticut. She has authored critical legislation addressing housing conditions, campus safety, and increased support for cultural centers. She also serves on the University Senate’s Justice, Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee and is an elected commissioner on the Zoning Board of Appeals in her hometown of Farmington. As Vice President, she aims to advance equitable policies, amplify student voices, strengthen civic engagement, and hold UConn’s administration accountable in addressing student needs.
