MESSAGE FROM THE CANDIDATE

Hi everyone! My name is Luke Roy, and I’m running to be your senator for fine arts. I’m running to ensure our arts and music programs have a voice in student government. My involvement with fine arts includes opera, and singing with the Concert Choir and Collegium Musicum. These opportunities have not only shaped who I am as a person, but enlightened me to the unique challenges that our department faces. When I speak to people from other departments, they are often unaware that we even have a music program! They’d certainly have no idea of the impacts the budget shortfalls are having on our program, how the ongoing construction has affected fine arts students and faculty, and most importantly, the devastating impact the closure of Buckley dining hall has had on our community. As your senator I would work to foster interdisciplinary collaboration and ensure that we have the necessary resources and recognition to thrive. As a singer I’m an expert in making my voice heard, whether it be the Jorgensen stage, or the senate floor. Together, we’ll ensure that fine arts not only has a seat at the table, but sets the tone for meaningful dialogue and action.
